Fly fishing is a cornerstone of Wyoming's outdoor heritage. Wyoming Trout Unlimited believes its thrill and the vital work of conservation should be accessible to everyone, especially with the growing number of women embracing the sport and their crucial role in preserving our cold water fisheries
The Wyoming Women's Fly Fishing Initiative is a program designed by women, for women, with the express purpose of fostering a vibrant and inclusive community within the sport and the conservation movement. We're committed to creating a space where women feel not just welcome, but empowered, whether they're just starting out or are experienced anglers looking to connect with like-minded individuals.
Why Get More Women Involved?
The landscape of fly fishing is evolving, with more and more women drawn to its challenges and serenity. They seek camaraderie, connection to nature, personal growth, and recognize their crucial role in safeguarding Wyoming's special rivers and streams.
However, entering a traditionally male-dominated space can sometimes feel intimidating. Women anglers may face unique challenges, such as a lack of female-focused resources, feeling like the "only woman" on the river, or simply desiring to learn in a supportive and comfortable environment.
The Wyoming Women's Fly Fishing Initiative addresses these challenges. By fostering a strong community of women anglers, we not only enrich the sport but also strengthen the conservation movement in Wyoming. If Wyoming is truly the "Equality State," then Wyoming Trout Unlimited strives to be an equality organization, leading by example. When women are empowered to participate fully in fly fishing and conservation, the entire community benefits, ensuring a brighter future for Wyoming's landscapes, fisheries, and people.
How to Get Involved
The Wyoming Women's Fly Fishing Initiative offers a diverse array of opportunities for women of all skill levels. WYTU Chair Samantha Beard leads this initiative, working closely with our dedicated chapters and volunteer leaders across the state to highlight existing women-oriented events and develop a new calendar of women-focused activities.
Here are some ways you can get involved:

Participate in Conservation: Roll up your sleeves and make a real difference for Wyoming's fisheries through stream restoration projects, habitat improvement initiatives, and educational outreach programs.
Volunteer Your Time: Help organize events, mentor new anglers, or contribute to conservation projects.
